In January and February, I travelled to Canary Islands by trains and boats to run the Transgrancanaria marathon. More than 8200km through Austria, France, and Spain.
This journey, while way longer than catching an airplane, was a beautiful experience, the opportunity to visit friends, and stop in places that I would not have visited in a another context.

Bonus: Slow travel is good for the environment! The carbon footprint of my journey got divided by three with respect to taking the airplane. The detailed computations are available here: Vienne-Tenerife
Note: The biggest part of the footprint comes from the ferry. It is urgent to develop green alternatives such as the use of sail boats. That’s exactly what Sailcoop (https://www.sailcoop.fr/) is doing to reach Corsica, among other destinations.
I’m in no hurry: the sun and the moon aren’t, either.
