Hi, I’m Laurane!
Astrophysicist & Climate Advocate
I am currently working on a documentary project on dark sky preservation and open to new professional opportunities in astronomy and sustainability in 2027!
What I do
Sustainability of astronomical research infrastructures
I led the environmental sustainability analysis of the Wide-field Spectroscopic Telescope.
Research on globular clusters
I worked on the puzzle of multiple stellar populations in globular clusters.
Teaching
I created and taught the interdisciplinary course “Sustainability in academia” at the University of Vienna.
Astronomers for planet Earth (A4E)
I am a member of the executive board of the grassroots movement A4E, aiming to use our position as astronomers to act in the climate crisis.
Biography
I was born in Nantes, France, but I grew up in the Reunion Island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, where three of my passions started: astronomy, hiking, and surfing. At the age of 8, I observed for the first time the rings around Saturn and the spot on Jupiter from the Mâques observatory. That’s when I knew I would like to study astronomy.
Projects

I am combining my expertise in engineering and astronomy to advance sustainability in astronomy, with a focus on astronomical research infrastructures.

My PhD Thesis focused on Globular Clusters and their multiple stellar populations.
